Renowned for her luminous voice, evocative storytelling, and deep emotional resonance, Lucy Kaplansky has built a celebrated career as a folk singer-songwriter. Originally from Chicago, Kaplansky moved to New York City in the late 1970s, where she became a vital part of the Greenwich Village folk scene, collaborating with artists like Shawn Colvin, Richard Shindell, and John Gorka. Despite an early start in music, Kaplansky left the stage to pursue a doctorate in clinical psychology, but her passion for songwriting and performing ultimately brought her back to music. Her 1994 debut album, The Tide, marked the beginning of a critically acclaimed solo career blending folk, pop, and country influences.
Over the years, Kaplansky has released a series of celebrated albums, including Ten Year Night and Red Horse, the latter a collaborative project with Shindell and Gorka. Her introspective lyrics and warm, clear voice have earned her a devoted following, while her performances strike a delicate balance between vulnerability and strength. Known for her ability to weave personal and universal themes, Kaplansky continues to captivate audiences worldwide, sharing songs that reflect on love, loss, and the beauty of human connection.
