BIOGRAPHY
Kenny Neal is a powerhouse of Louisiana blues, known for his fiery guitar work, deeply soulful vocals, and magnetic stage presence. A modern master of swamp blues, Neal carries forward a rich musical legacy, blending gritty storytelling with sizzling musicianship that bridges the traditional and the contemporary. Mentored by legends like Buddy Guy and gifted his first harmonica by Slim Harpo, Neal honed his craft in his family’s band before stepping into the spotlight with his own sound—steeped in the bayou but infused with fresh energy and unmistakable charisma. His music resonates with authenticity, capturing the soul of the South and the spirit of the blues in every note.
Neal's 1988 debut album, Big News from Baton Rouge!!, released by Alligator Records, showcased his ability to blend traditional swamp blues with contemporary flair. His dynamic performances and authentic sound have led to numerous accolades, including a Grammy nomination for his 2016 album Bloodline and multiple Blues Music Awards. Beyond music, Neal demonstrated his versatility by starring in the 1991 Broadway production of Mule Bone, featuring music by Taj Mahal. With a career spanning decades, Kenny Neal continues to captivate audiences worldwide, embodying the spirit and evolution of the blues.
