The Denver School of the Arts Jazz Workshop Orchestra Big Band and Combos represent some of the most dedicated student musicians in the Denver (CO) Metro Area. Students in the Big Band and combos study and perform works by both historically significant and innovative modern jazz artists. The ensembles maintain an active performance schedule across Denver and the region, serving as musical ambassadors for the school’s nationally-recognized music program.

The Jazz Workshop Orchestra Big Band has been recognized at the Essentially Ellington High School Jazz Band Festival & Competition and invited to perform at the Midwest Clinic International Band and Orchestra Conference. The DSA JWO Combos perform widely as well, including appearances at the University of Northern Colorado Jazz Festival and other regional events. Students in the program have earned honors such as DownBeat Student Awards, YoungArts Awards, Colorado All-State Jazz Band selections, and placements in the Yamaha Music for All Jazz Band of America. Many alumni continue their studies at leading music schools—including Juilliard, Eastman, Berklee, NYU, the University of North Texas, USC Thornton, and Manhattan School of Music—and now perform, compose, and teach professionally.
