BIOGRAPHY
Award-winning vocalist, instrumentalist, and songwriter Curtis Salgado, hailed by NPR as “an icon” with “a huge voice,” has captivated audiences worldwide with his soulful, versatile sound blending blues, gospel, R&B, jazz, funk, rock ’n’ roll, and soul. Known for his powerhouse live performances and insightful original songs, he has won eleven Blues Music Awards—including B.B. King Entertainer of the Year—and earned acclaim for albums such as Soul Shot, The Beautiful Lowdown, and Rough Cut. Salgado’s latest release, Fine By Me, showcases his masterful songwriting and vibrant vocals across ten originals and two covers, featuring standout tracks like “Hear The Lonely Hearts” and his lead on O.V. Wright’s “I’m Gonna Forget About You.” Born in 1954 in Eugene, Oregon, Salgado’s early immersion in soul and blues inspired a lifelong career, including co-leading The Robert Cray Band, fronting Roomful of Blues, and mentoring John Belushi for The Blues Brothers. Despite facing multiple health challenges, including liver and lung cancer and quadruple bypass surgery, Salgado has emerged stronger and more prolific, delivering music that is heartfelt, clever, and electrifying on stage, leaving listeners “chills-inspired” and deeply moved.
